The former first lady created the Betty Ford Center,
a unique drug and alcohol rehabilitation clinic, and my portrait was to hang in the simple lobby.
I wanted to suggest the California landscape surrounding the center.
I have known Mrs. Ford for more than 25 years and she is a woman of great warmth, charm, and conviction.
